She graduated from Yale University’s East Asia Institute and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), and has been a college counselor at THIS or more than 5 years. As a counselor at THIS, she has helped more than 100 students apply to universities in the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, China, and other countries.  she assists students identify their personal interests and passions and guides them to pursuing their individual academic goals.

Grade 9 & 10

As the Director of College Counseling at THIS, Ming Weng lead the evening workshop session with an introduction of the current College Counseling team followed by an overview of what parents and students should expect regarding counseling services.  Next, Ming focused on the current priorities for students in grades 9 and 10 — improving academic performance, communicating with teachers, participating in clubs and community activities, sharpening English skills particularly writing, and practicing good time management.

Grade 11

For grade 11 parents, Ming focused on the admissions requirements and policies of four major countries (the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and China). By detailing the application deadlines and process for these four countries, Ming gave parents a clearer picture of the direction and specific tasks for this preparation year.

Ming emphasized how THIS has always maintained a good and trusting relationship with universities in China and abroad. THIS school counselors will continue to provide comprehensive support for students and will only send student transcripts directly to the university versus directly to the student or any external agency.  The school also does not recommend that students work with other agencies outside of school.

The well-attended sessions were such a success as they were filled with rich discussion and lasted for several hours.  Stay tuned for more parent workshops in the near future!
