HOW TO APPLY
STEP 1 PREPARE REQUIRED APPLICATION DOCUMENTS
You must provide photocopies of the following materials as part of the application and bring the original copies to the in-person interview.
1. Identification
If the student holds a non-mainland Chinese passport
- Valid Passport identification page (including ID picture)
- Valid Chinese visa page
If the student is a resident of Hong Kong or Macau
- Valid Passport identification page (including ID picture)
- Valid Mainland Travel Permit (Home Return Permit)
- Valid Hongkong/ Macau Permanent Identity Card
If the student is a resident of Taiwan
- Valid Passport identification page (including ID picture)
- Valid Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents (Taiwan Compatriot Permit)
2. Passport Style Photograph
Recent colored passport-style photo of the student (3.3cm * 4.8cm)
3. School Transcripts and Letter of Recommendation
NOTE: all recommendation letters and the school recommendation form must be sent directly from the current school to THIS’s official email: this@mail.tsinghua.edu.cn via email.
For Grade 1 applicant
- One teacher recommendation letter
- The School recommendation form
For Grade 2 applicant
- The original official transcript, semester reports, or report cards of the past one year
- Two teacher recommendation letters
- The School recommendation form
For Grade 3-6 applicant
- The original official transcript, semester reports, or report cards of the past two years
- Two teacher recommendation letters
- The School recommendation form
For Grade 7 and 8 applicant
- The original official transcript or semester reports of the past two years
- Two teacher recommendation letters
For Grade 9-11 applicant
- Official transcripts for the past two years, all transcripts since Grade 9
- Two teacher recommendation letters

STEP 2 FINALIZE AND SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION
Fill out and submit the online application for considerations to enroll in THIS.
STEP 3 ATTEND STUDENT INTERVIEW
Applicants are required to bring their completed application documents to THIS for the interview at their scheduled interview time; students and parents are both required to attend the interview.
STEP 4 TAKE ADMISSION TEST
Students who pass the interview will be approved for the admission test. Applicants will be notified of the date and time of their scheduled admission test within two weeks of passing the interview. Upon notification, students are required to return to THIS at their scheduled time. Students applying for Grade 7 or higher are also required to take a math test, and non-native Chinese students must take a Chinese test. Grade 1 applicants are required to participate in a behavioral observation after passing the admission test. All admission test scores will remain valid for six months. If the student’s application is postponed for more than six months, the student must be retested.
STEP 5 ADMISSION DECISIONS
A THIS’ admissions officer will notify applicants of the admissions’ decision via phone within two weeks of the completion of the admission test. Grade 1 applicants will be notified within two weeks after completion of the behavior observation.

THIS applications are open all year round. However, there are 2 important dates for transfer students.
November 15th
Last day to enroll in the first semester.
March 15th
Last day to enroll in the second semester.
