Eligibility

PRIMARY

In order to be considered for a teaching position at THIS primary school, all applicants should meet or exceed the following criteria:

  • Two years of teaching experience.
  • Degree in elementary education.
  • Teaching certificate elementary education.
  • Native speaker of English from North America.
  • Understanding and belief in progressive/inquiry-based education.
    • NOTE: If a teacher does not have two years of experience, he must have a teaching certificate or a Master’s of Education Degree in elementary education.

SECONDARY

In order to be considered for a teaching position at THIS secondary school, all applicants should meet or exceed the following criteria:

  • Two years of teaching experience.
  • Degree in specified content area.
  • Teaching certificate in the content area.
  • Native or near-native speaker of English from the US, Canada, UK, New Zealand, Australia, Ireland, or South Africa (Visas are restricted to the countries that are listed.)
  • Understanding and belief in progressive/inquiry-based education.

Contracts

Teachers begin with one-year contracts and after successful completion of that year, are offered new contracts that vary from one to two years. Initial administrator and counselor contracts vary in length from two to three years.

The school’s visa specialist provides on-going support for foreign staff as they work their way through the visa process. The school reimburses staff for costs associated with the visa.

Benefits

HOUSING

While housing is not provided a stipend is allotted. The amount increases after the first year.

FLIGHTS

The school arranges and pays for the flight to Beijing in August and home again at the conclusion of each school year.

INSURANCE

Funding is provided to help pay for the school’s contracted group health insurance plan.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

An education stipend is provided every year after the completion of one full year of employment.  The amount is 8,000rmb for year 2 and 10,000rmb for every year after year two.  The education stipend is not taxed and costs are reimbursed after completion of courses.
