SPRING

SPRING

SPRING

SPRING

SPRING

Hop Into Spring

Together once again on the THIS campus, we were excited to host this year’s Primary China Day on March 8th. With the theme of “Hop Into Spring,” the children and teachers embraced spring with bright smiles and cheerful singing.

Performance

Opening Dance

“Wake up early in the morning and shine in the mirror of the diamond blossom, comb the hair and smell the fragrance of cinnamon blossoms ……” The lower-grade children started the whole performance with a Beijing rhythm dance “Selling Water”. Along with the beautiful melody, the children danced with light steps, swung their handkerchiefs and danced gracefully, showing the innocence and lovely characters of Beijing opera.

The opening dance also included the modern street dance from grade 4 and 5 students. The children expressed their emotions and performed with confidence and courage in the music of “Small Town Summer”. The silver sequins from the children’s hands lit up the stage like fireworks as they ended their routine.

Grade 1: Song of Spring

SPRING

With winter just recently gone, spring has crept in with its brightness and blossoming flowers. The grade 1 children sang a vivid song of spring filled with chanting nursery rhymes chants and ancient poems. They took us into a colorful world that embraced us with of poems and songs.

Grade 2: The Story of Mud Pond

In grade 2’s textbook drama, “The Story of Mud Pond,” the children used a piece of mud pond to link the two texts “The Frog Sells the Mud Pond” and “Pulling Up Seedlings to Help Them Grow.” Through vivid and imaginative performances, they portrayed individual and interesting characters interweaving many stories within the text and in the play.

SPRING

Grade 3: The Beauty of Tang Dynasty Poetry

“Reading Tang Poems” is a children’s song composed by composer Ms. Gu Jianfen using the traditional Chinese pentatonic scale. Third grade students followed the rhythmic ancient poems, looked back at the classic images in the Tang poems, and danced with with umbrellas and delicate hand gestures expressing their appreciation and love for Chinese studies in a unique way.

Grade 4: Poetic China by A class

and Spring by B class

Poetic China

Spring

In a gentle yet powerful voice, the grade 4 students recited a poem about China with the beautiful and colorful rhythm of spring. The audience was enthralled by the energy and passion.

Ayanvitta Kalsi from grade 5 Chinese B class presented a recorder solo bringing us the gentle sounds of spring buds opening. Avery Padilla and Ethan Zhu from grade 4 Chinese B class recited their original poem “Spring”: “Spring gently took my hand and led me to the playground to slide; took me to art class to draw smiling peach blossoms; took me to Chinese class to write a little poem about spring; took me to music class to sing a wonderful hymn of spring. “

Grade 5: The Returning of 12

Bronze Sculptures of Chinese Zodiac

Animals

“Three hills and five gardens on the western road of the capital, the grass is green on the broken walls.” With the melodious sound of the guqin, fifth grade students took the audience through an immersive experience about the history of the Old Summer Palace. Through this time-travelling dialogue, the young performers crossed the boundaries of time marveling at the beauty of the Old Summer Palace and sighing at its tragedy. What inspiration on stage – “Our generation should be strong!”

Grade 5: Childhood

At the end of the performance, the chorus of “Childhood” by all the grade 5 students evoked the childhood memories of the teachers and parents. The students danced freely on the stage and swayed their sand hammers, singing out the innocence of childhood and hope. Students from grade 4 — Xu Yilang, Li Jiayi and Zhang Zhuoyi, brought beautiful accompaniment to the older classmates.

Cultural Station

After the China Day performances in the auditorium, students and their parents had fun interacting at the different activities stations. The stations included Hoop Rolling, Dumpling Making, and Sugar Figure Blowing Art where the children were guided by cultural heritage craftsman to experience the sugar-figure blowing first-hand.

SPRING

SPRING

For this year’s China Day, we were so privileged to also invite some parents to participate especially in the dumpling-making activity. The parents were very enthusiastic and the children were very happy to learn how to make their own dumplings. The joy and taste of the dumplings danced in their mouths. Traditional games are the treasures of our national culture and they are also full of educational wisdom. The children experienced traditional games such as rolling the iron ring and flying the bamboo dragonfly on the playground. We hope that through these activities, students can pass on their traditions as well as enjoy their childhood.

SPRING

Years by year, we look forward to the future. Now, we walk in this spring with singing and laughter looking at the beautiful world before our eyes; we run in this spring with great hope to let our hearts feel joy and color. Let’s feel the pulse of the spring, grow with the new sprouts and usher in the rich fragrance of the full year.
