A Primary Division’s Creative Journey : Exploring Art at 798 Arts District

Tsinghua International School places great emphasis on students’ art education. Teachers use various methods, including organizing student visits to different art exhibitions, to broaden and deepen their artistic learning experience.

This year, on September 26, THIS primary division ventured off to the historic 798 Arts District for a day of art appreciation and hands on activities. Students experienced a tour of UCCA art gallery, viewing the contemporary art exhibition of Lawrence Weiner: A Pursuit of Happiness ASAP.

After viewing the exhibition, students completed a worksheet, making special note of how the artwork was installed and curated as well as their personal perspective of the show. They also completed a hands-on artmaking workshop in the style of the artist with UCCA Kids staff at the gallery.

To finish off a day of engaging fun, students explored 798 with their chaperones completing a public art scavenger hunt. This visit allowed students to better understand diverse cultures by engaging with artworks of different styles and forms, enhancing their interest and passion for art. It also helped improve their critical thinking and perceptual abilities, inspiring them to be more creative in their studies and lives, and providing diverse insights for their future development.

The art journey for 2024-2025 has just begun. Let’s witness the dazzling transformation of THIS students as they become shining artists!

N.B.: The 798 Art District is located in Beijing’s Chaoyang District and is one of China’s most renowned contemporary art centers, transformed from abandoned factories. The district blends industrial remnants with a modern art atmosphere, regularly hosting various art events and cultural exchanges, making it a hub for creativity and art enthusiasts.
