Independent Study｜在“硬核”研究项目中培养创新能力

国际部以学生为中心，重视学生综合能力的培养，鼓励学生的创新精神。学校在每一个阶段都会为学生提供发掘和展示才能的机会，鼓励多元化思考，让学生拥有内驱力。十二年级的独立研究项目就是学校给学生提供自主发展场域的一个典型例子。学生们利用整个学年的时间，对选题进行深入的专业学术研究，最后在学年末呈现给大家一场精彩的独立研究项目展示。

THIS believes that the development of a student’s comprehensive abilities and fostering the spirit of innovation is a priority for student-centered education. Our school provides opportunities for students to explore and showcase their talents at every grade level, encouraging diverse thinking and nurturing intrinsic motivation. The Independent Research Program in Grade 12 is one example how THIS encourages individualized student development. Students spend the entire year conducting in-depth academic research on their chosen topics, culminating in a dynamic project presentation at the end of the year.

独立研究项目是学校为学有余力的十二年级学生提供的深入研究感兴趣的课题的平台，使其对未来的学术方向有更加清晰的认识。在高中时期明确这一点对其长期学术生涯有重要意义。

The Independent Study Program is the school’s platform for seniors who are academically ready to professionally delve into topics of their interests, gaining a clearer understanding of their future academic direction.

在研究中，十二年级学生自行设计课题，确定选题，提交开题报告，学校会匹配老师进行一对一的指导。项目过程非常严谨，学生在校内导师的指导下，制定课题目的、研究问题、研究计划以及课题测评标准。学生需要定期与校内导师见面，讨论研究方案的进展情况，并进行结题答辩。

In the program, the students design their own topics, identify and will submit the final report. The school pairs them with teachers to serve as one-on-one mentors or advisors. The project process is very rigorous, with students working to develop a project purpose, research questions, research plan, and project measurement criteria. Students are required to meet regularly with their on-campus mentor to discuss the progress of their research proposal and to, ultimately, defend their final project.

每年独立研究项目的话题都涵盖各个领域，本届毕业生的选题就包括了生物学、历史、艺术、科技、社会科学、英语语言文学、中文语言与文学等方面，充分展现了学生们广泛的研究兴趣和对科研满满的热情。

Each year, the topics of the independent research program cover a wide range of fields demonstrating the students’ broad research interests and full enthusiasm for research. Students from the Class of 2023 have chosen topics in biology, history, art, technology, social sciences, English language and literature, and Chinese language and literature.

In each of their research projects, the students invested a significant amount of time and energy into their work. We can see their growth in academic research and feel the deepening of their research spirit. We hope that the students will use their love of research as a sail to take them on their personal journey of academic excellence starting from THIS moving forward.
