THIS Math and Science Week｜原来数学和科学可以如此有趣！

数学科学周中，小学部开展了接受“搭建挑战”的活动。在规定时间内，同学们分成小组通过团队合作完成搭建任务。期间，在老师的帮助下，同学们学习了如何确定搭建物的高度和长度，如何搭出稳定的三角形，如何设计搭建物的整体结构。搭建的过程并不是一次就能够成功，但大家在团队协作中，始终积极地鼓励自己的队友，一起认真专注地研究，对于搭建物的设计也是奇思妙想不断。最后，大家都成功完成了属于自己团队的作品，还在三叶草的图形上写下自己在团队合作中体会到的收获。

The primary division took on a “building challenge.” With the support of teachers, the students learned how to determine the height and length of the structure, how to build a stable triangle, and how to design the overall shape of a building. The process may not have been successful in one go, but everyone was always active in teamwork. Everyone encouraged their teammates, studied carefully together, and shared whimsical ideas about the design of the building. In the end, teams successfully completed their work and wrote about their learning experiences on the clover figure.

数学科学周的所有互动都与学生们的日常生活无缝对接，紧凑而又充实。3月14日为圆周率日，中学部的同学们就在走廊里创意十足地贴上了圆周率π的读数，路过的学生都可以在其中试着找一找和自己生日对应的数字。

All of the interactions during Math and Science Week were intentionally integrated into the students’ daily lives. On March 14, π Day, students in the middle school creatively posted the value of pi along the entire length of the hallway. Students and staff were to find as many times within pi that corresponds to their birthday as they passed by.

此次数学科学周中还有其他有趣的跨学部活动，小学部的同学们可以按自己的喜好去尝试。也许有的活动并不是他们目前不擅长的，但看到中学部的同学们展示了那么厉害的学科知识技能，这在无形中打开了一扇门，激发了小学部的小朋友们去探索，去尝试。孩子们通过编制珠串、填涂画画，都为有趣的数学规律而着迷。

Each year, the Math Festival has a variety of different projects that the children can try out to their liking. Perhaps there are activities that the children are not currently good at, but seeing how creative and clever the secondary students are has invariably opened the door to inspire them to learn math. They were fascinated by the interesting mathematical laws by compiling bead strings and filling in the pictures and drawings.

同一天，中学部还组织了以知识性和实用性为主的数学竞赛，让同学们学数学、用数学，开动大脑，积极参与，在知识竞赛中感受到数学的魅力与学习数学的乐趣。学校鼓励学生们开展多样的活动，就是希望每一位学生都能够真正发现数学的无穷奥秘，乐于探索数学、爱上数学、运用数学！

The math department also organized a math competition. In addition to learning, students applied their math knowledge both independently and collaboratively. The school encouraged students to carry out a variety of challenges with the hope that every student will enjoy discovering the infinite mysteries of mathematics!

数学作为一门科学，在世界发展中发挥着无与伦比的重要性，数学的思想和方法在不同程度上影响着社会的方方面面；但另一方面，也许在很多人看来数学又是那么深奥、抽象，甚至有一些枯燥。所以以圆周率日为契机，我们鼓励学生们从了解“π”出发，通过各种生动有趣的数学活动，拉近大家与数学的距离，让数学不再‘高冷’。

As with science, mathematics plays an unparalleled role in the development of the world today. The ideas and methods of mathematics influence all aspects of society to varying degrees. Even so, mathematics may seem so deep and even a bit boring to many people. Therefore, Pi Day is an opportunity. We encourage students to start with the understanding of “pi” and through lively and interesting activities, we can bring mathematics closer to everyone making it seem less ‘cold’.

作为每年数学科学周传统的一部分，高中科学社团SciNex的学生会自主组织“科学碗”知识竞赛，活动深受大家的欢迎，今年也依旧吸引了众多同学的参与。

In Math and Science Week tradition, the secondary student science club SciNex usually organizes the annual “Science Bowl” during extended homeroom, which is very popular and continues to attract many students this year.

竞赛中，初中学生以年级为单位参与，高中学生则按班级为单位参加，大家会接受各种各样关于数学、化学、生物、物理、地球和空间科学等领域的综合性科学问题的挑战。面对一个个问题的抛出，同学们在每题20秒的作答时间内飞速思考，踊跃抢答，每个教室里能感受到大家高涨的参与热情。大家都展现了丰富的知识储备，竞赛中的比分差距被一再缩小，难分伯仲。

In this event, the middle school students participated by grade level while the high school students participated by class. Students were challenged with a variety of comprehensive science questions in the fields of mathematics, chemistry, biology, physics, and earth and space science. As each question was posed, students thought on their feet to come up with an answer within the 20-second response time. The competitive atmosphere could be felt as students used their banks of science knowledge. The score gap in each classroom was repeatedly narrowed insofar as one room needed a tie-breaking round. 

在这一周里，SciNex成员尹天成还为初中的同学们举办了几轮“科学碗”比赛。大家还在周五举办了庆祝活动，不仅是为了庆祝同学们在测试中表现出的对科学知识的兴趣，更重要的是，小小的测验锻炼了他们的团队精神和沟通能力，同时他们能够享受探究课内外科学和数学知识的乐趣。

During the week, SciNex leader Victor Yin hosted several rounds of the Science Bowl especially for middle school students, which drew a large number of students to participate. They also held a celebration to celebrate the students’ interest in science knowledge. The rounds during the week honed these students’ teamwork and communication skills while they were able to enjoy science and math outside of the traditional classroom setting.
