Dr. Li Cheng is one of the leading members of the Deep-time Digital Earth (DDE) project. During the lecture, Dr. Cheng popularized how the international experts working with DDE conduct seismological research and discussed the future of earth science data collection with the international students and teachers. She emphasized that in the future, she will actively seek opportunities for collaboration and support between DDE and the THIS Seismology Team’s earthquake research group in developing the THIS Earthquake Seismic Network (THIS-ESN), hopefully leading to international collaboration between students and researchers, opportunities to participate in international competitions and research.
Dr. Cheng, the Journal Manager for the DDE Scholar Report, explained that DDE is the first IUGS- recognized Big Science program. It is dedicated to facilitating innovation in understanding the Earth’s evolution and the Sustainable Development Goals. Using five core scientific concepts, Big Knowledge, Big Data, Big Platform, Big Science and Big Communication, DDE’s mission is to harmonize Real-Time Deep Earth Data, and share global geoscience knowledge to transform earth science as we move through this Digital Age. This work will enable DDE and worldwide researchers to reconstruct the evolution of life, geography, matter, and Earth’s climate, and thus achieve an accurate reconstruction of the evolutionary history of the Earth and life, identify the macroscopic distribution of global mineral resources and energy, and identify the macroscopic distribution of global mineral and energy resources. DDE seeks to provide a virtual research environment for millions of researchers, science, and technology professional users around the world to store, share, and use research data across scientific fields and countries. Deep Time Digital Earth will carry out large scientific research, build the largest geoscientific basic database, and establish the “Google of Geosciences”, so as to integrate global data on the evolution of the Earth and advance global geoscientific knowledge.
