WELLBEING Transforming Through Action – Wellbeing Tsinghua International School (THIS) recently launched a school-wide well-being initiative, recognizing that well-being is essential not just for students, but for all members of the community—students, staff, teachers, and parents. The initiative is centered around creating a culture where everyone feels empowered, supported, and connected. THIS Family WELLBEING The event was hosted by Dr. Gerald Anthony, THIS Wellbeing Coordinator on Wednesday, September 25 at 2pm. Academic Principal Mr. Scott Pare opened the event with remarks emphasizing THIS’s commitment to the holistic development of all community members. To give emphasis to the importance of wellbeing, world renown speaker, Jung Starrett, JD, co-founder of SoulCo LLC and former Executive Director at Harvard University was the featured presenter to speak to all THIS faculty. Jung’s experience is quite extensive, having vast experience in corporate strategy and a deep passion for mindfulness, emotional intelligence, and compassion. With over twenty years as a corporate lawyer at Microsoft and IBM, Jung transitioned into education, using her leadership skills to support community well-being serving in senior positions at Northeastern University School of Law, Boston University Questrom School of Business, and Harvard’s Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning as well as Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Dr. Anthony interviewed Jung, leading a powerful discussion on the importance of well-being. Jung began by defining well-being as a holistic approach that includes emotional, mental, and physical health, emphasizing that it is vital for both individual and collective success. Through real-life examples, Jung illustrated how nurturing well-being creates a positive ripple effect throughout any community, enhancing both personal fulfillment and organizational sustainability. During the conversation, Jung connected her experiences at Harvard University and Microsoft with well-being strategies, offering practical advice on leadership, resilience, and influence. Her insights focused on the role every stakeholder—students, faculty, parents, and staff play in cultivating a well-being culture. The event had a brief question and answer session, where participants engaged with Jung’s ideas. Dr. Anthony concluded the event by reinforcing the importance of this wellbeing initiative and encouraging ongoing dialogue among all stakeholders.
