THIS WASC Accreditation Journey

截止至2021年，全国通过WASC认证的学校共有72所，其中北京的国际学校共有12所，清华附中国际部于2016年成功取得6年的WASC认证资质，正式成为其中之一。清华附中国际部在完成WASC认证的过程中与WASC认证委员会不断交流，积极吸取国际教育精华，学习世界范围内优秀中小学的经验，与全球顶尖教育智慧不停碰撞火花，持续推进提升学校教学水平。

Until the year of 2021, there are 72 schools in China and 12 International School in Beijing that have passed WASC accreditation. Tsinghua International School is one of them and the school successfully passed WASC Accreditation in 2016 and has been granted for 6 years. During the process of WASC accerditation, THIS constantly work with ACS WASC, actively absorbing the essence of international education, learning the experience of excellent primary and secondary schools around the world, constantly exploring the world’s top educational wisdom, and continuing to improve school’s academic standards.

对于清华附中国际部来说，获得WASC认证不仅是国际上对于学校办学的认可和信誉的保障，更是学校对于自身发展的高期望和保持高学术水准持续奋进的自我要求。我们始终致力于为学生提供中西融合的高质量国际教育，期望从清华附中国际部走出的学生，具备中国文化根基，具有国际视野，秉承清华精神，在国际舞台上为世界做出积极贡献。

WASC全称为“西部学校与学院教育联盟” (Western Association of Schools and Colleges），成立于1962年，是美国教育部认可的非营利、非政府组织，由三个专业认证委员会组成。西部学校与学院教育联盟学校认证委员会（ACS WASC）为WASC主要认证委员会之一，美国六大地区认证机构之一，由35名来自美国各学校、协会和教育部委员组成，为世界各地的学校提供认证和帮助。

WASC is the acronym for “Western Association of Schools and Colleges” (Western Association of Schools and Colleges). It was established in 1962 and is a non-profit and non-governmental organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. It is composed of three professional certification committees. The Western Schools and Colleges Education Alliance School Accreditation Committee (ACS WASC) is one of WASC’s main accreditation committees and one of the six regional accreditation agencies in the United States. It is composed of 35 members from various schools, associations and the Ministry of Education in the U.S.

WASC认证是目前对国际学校资质评估的权威主流认证机构，其审查时间长，过程复杂，考核范围广，评鉴工作严谨。因此，WASC认证被誉为“教育界的奥斯卡”，获得其认证的学校证明办学理念先进，教育教学优质，也向社会提供了学校的信誉保障，具有权威性与荣誉性。

WASC accreditation is considered to be on eof the most authoriative institution for international school qulifications for its long and complex process and its rigorous assessment, known as the “Oscar of education”. The school that has been certified by it has proved that it has advanced school concepts, high-quality education and teaching, and also provides the society with the guarantee of the school’s reputation, which is authoritative and honorable.

2016年1月，WASC委员会根据到访国际部考评团的建议，授予国际部六年的认证资质。但认证并非终身制，学校需要依据考评团的建议不断改进、发展从而获得下一轮的认证资质。

In January 2016, the WASC committee awarded the International Department a six-year certification based on the recommendations of the evaluation team visiting THIS. However, certification is not lifelong tenure. The school needs to continuously improve and develop based on the recommendations of the assessment team to obtain the next round of certification qualifications.

我们在做什么样的努力？

What effort have we been doing?

清华附中国际部在2016年取得WASC认证之后，以促进学校发展为宗旨，由老师们自愿报名成立了相应的委员会，从各个方面促进学校教育教学质量的全面提升。委员会设立和实现的目标包括：

After THIS acquired the WASC accreditation in 2016, with the purpose of promoting school development, teachers voluntarily signed up to set up corresponding committees to promote the overall improvement of school education and teaching quality in all aspects. Some of the committees are as followes:

1.课程目标委员会：共同探讨怎样将21世纪核心素养的培养与学科教学融合在一起，从而实现学校的使命与核心价值观。

2.档案委员会：负责整理学校所有重要的文件和数据。

3.独立思考和论述能力委员会：讨论怎样在各科中培养学生的独立思考能力和表达论述能力，以及怎样评估学生的学习成果。

4.数据分析委员会：分析学生的各项标准化考试成绩等数据，并推导这些数据对教育教学的指导意义。

5.设施设备委员会：负责收集并促进改善我们的教学条件。

6.计算机技术委员会：更新1-12年级的计算机课程大纲。

7.性别差异委员会：关注学生性别的差异，如何在教育教学中发挥性别的优势。

8.安全委员会：着眼于全校师生的安全。

1. The Curriculum Goal Committee discusses how to integrate the cultivation of core literacy in the 21st century with subject teaching, so as to realize the mission and core values of the school.

2. The Archives Committee is responsible for sorting out all important documents and data of the school.

3. The Independent Thinking and Argumentative Ability Committee discusses how to develop students’ independent thinking ability and expressing and discourse ability in each subject, and how to evaluate students’ learning achievements.

4. The data analysis committee analyzes the students’ various standardized test scores and other data, and derives the guiding significance of these data to education and teaching.

5. The Facilities and Equipment Committee is responsible for collecting and promoting the improvement of our teaching conditions.

6. The Computer Technology Committee updates the computer curriculum syllabus for grades 1-12.

7. The Gender Difference Committee pays attention to the gender differences of students and how to give full play to the advantages of gender in education and teaching.

8. The safety committee focuses on the safety of teachers and students in the school.

 

在此期间，国际部的所有教职员工，通力合作，跨学科、跨学段互相探讨交流，并让学生和家长也充分参与。WASC认证官们对国际部近年来的发展、办学水平给予了充分的肯定，特别是在疫情期间老师们表现出的专业与敬业，更是给予了高度的评价。During this period, all faculty and staff of THIS worked together to discuss different issues across departments and divisions, and students and parents were also fully involved. In December 2020, after a comprehensive and detailed mid-term assessment by the ACS Committee, THIS successfully passed the WASC mid-term inspection. The certification officers have fully affirmed the development of the school in recent years, especially the professionalism and dedication shown by the teachers during the epidemic, and they have given the school high praise.

新学年，老师们将分成不同的教研小组和课题小组，继续履行各校内委员会职能，以学生为中心，为学生的学习持续赋能，为学校保持高学术水准而不懈努力，为学校发展提供源源不断的动力。In the new school year, teachers will be divided into different focus groups and subject groups, and continue to perform the functions of the committees. We will make sure our works are centered on students, continue to empower students to learn, make unremitting efforts to maintain high academic standards and provide a unlimited source for school development.
