Planting Trees

      走，植树去！

4月21日，国际部八年级的学生们前往首都全民义务植树基地——北京市大兴区六合庄林场，参加主题为“热爱中国 植树护绿”的植树活动。


On 21st April, THIS grade 8 students went to the Lihezhuang Forestry Field in Daxing District to plant trees. The theme for this legacy project is “Love China, Plant Trees and Protect Nature.”




虽然早上的天气细雨霏霏，但是到达林场后，小雨已停，微风阵阵，真是适宜植树的好天气。抵达林场后，由八年级班主任高冬晴老师作为活动开幕仪式的主持人，感谢林场对学校活动的大力支持并邀请林场副场长梁茜女士致欢迎词。梁茜女士为同学们讲解了林场的发展历史和场地特点，热情欢迎同学们来到这里参加植树活动并希望大家可以收获满满的乐趣。


The day began with drizzly weather. But, by the time students and teachers arrived at the woodland, the rain had stopped and there was a gentle, cool breeze making it a lovely day for planting trees. In the opening ceremony, Ms. Dongqing Gao, one of the three G8 homeroom teachers, thanked the Woodlands for its support of the school’s activity and invited Ms. Xi Liang, the Deputy Head of the Woodlands, to give a welcome speech. Ms. Liang introduced the history of the Woodlands and the characteristics of the site and wished the students fun planting.



接着，教师代表Kapraun老师为大家讲解活动的意义。Kapraun老师围绕着国际部核心价值观——“身心健康，正直担当，团结合作，探索创新，尊重包容，领袖气质”深入讲解此次活动的目的和意义，并与同学们亲切互动，充分调动了大家的兴趣。之后，同学们在林场领导和植树专家的带领下，来到植树场地。孙高凯工程师为同学们讲解并演示植树要领，大家认真聆听之后，跃跃欲试，植树过程中一个个无比兴奋，谨记要领，团结合作，种下了一棵棵小树苗。不一会儿，一片空地上已经被同学们种下了20棵小树苗。活动最后，林场还为同学们贴心准备了自己设计的活动纪念品，大家领到后纷纷高兴不已。


Ms. Kapraun, another homeroom teacher, explained the meaning of the activity to the students focusing on the school’s core values of “wellbeing, collaboration, respect, integrity, innovation, and leadership.” The students were given insight into the meaning of the activity and were fully engaged. After listening carefully to the forestry leaders and tree planting guides, they were eager to give it a try. The students eagerly planted 20 saplings remembering the important points and cooperating with each other in a clearing. In the end, the students were delighted to receive a souvenir of their own design.







感谢家长们对活动的大力支持以及林场为同学们提供这次亲近自然、认识自然、爱护自然、植绿造林的实践活动场地。我们希望学生通过参加更多这样实践性强的劳动教育活动，能够在劳动中收获知识，拥抱自然，从而促进他们的健康成长。


We would like to thank the parents for their strong support and the forest site for providing the students with this practical activity venue to get close to nature, learn about nature and care for nature. We hope that through more such practical thematic labor education activities, students will gain knowledge and embrace nature in their work, thus promoting their healthy growth.

我很喜欢这次的植树活动，对我们来说这是一次意义非凡的经历。同学们一起铲土，一起提桶装水，欢声笑语一直围绕着我们。我已经迫不及待地想看到这块平地上长出一片茂密的树林啦！


I enjoyed the legacy activity. We planted trees together, leaving a significant memory in the trees. We dug holes and carried buckets of water together. Laughter and joy were all around us. I can’t wait until this flat ground gets filled with many giant trees.

在八年级的同学们将要升入高中，迈入学生时代的新阶段之际，我们去了六合庄林场植树，为地球留下属于我们自己的”Legacy”。我们三三两两一组，一起挖洞，一起流汗，一起提沉重的水桶。当一棵树苗很快被种下去，一桶水被泼到树坑里，我自己仿佛也变成了一颗小树，能够吸收到土地的滋养。回望一整片树林，我畅想未来的参天大树，憧憬我和同学们也能像树苗一样不怕困难、高耸入云、茁壮成长。


As time moves on to a new phase to enter the high school years, we 8th graders went to plant a tree at Liuhezhuang Forest to leave our own “legacy” for the planet. We worked in groups of two or three, digging holes, sweating and carrying heavy buckets of water together. As a sapling was quickly planted and a bucket of water poured into the hole, I felt like a small tree myself, able to absorb the nourishment of the earth. Looking back at the whole grove, I envisioned the great trees of the future and longed for me and my classmates to grow as tall and strong as the saplings, unafraid of the difficulties.





这次植树活动不仅让同学们在劳动中学到了知识，体会到了劳动的快乐和团队合作的重要性，同时也让他们更加热心公益，热爱自然，更加专注环境保护。对于八年级的初中毕业班学生们来说，种下一棵棵的树苗也寓意着他们茁壮成长，拥有美好的未来。


The tree-planting activity not only taught the students the joy of labor and the importance of teamwork, but also made them more enthusiastic about public welfare and protecting nature. For the grade 8 students, as they will soon enter the high school, the planting of a sapling also signifies that they will grow up and have a bright future.
