Remote Learning

Everyone in the THIS community is finally back on our beautiful campuses!
During the previous weeks of remote learning, although the students couldn’t come to school, we were still happy to see their energetic faces on the screen. Teachers utilized their years of experience to quickly arrange and carefully prepare lessons, aiming to create dynamic and high-quality classes for students.
Let’s take peek at some of these wonderful remote lessons!

The Grade 9 Humanities class just completed their study on the World War II Holocaust. As a final piece on emphasizing empathy and compassion, students created memorials. We were supposed to make these as a gallery in school, but we moved it online once remote learning started. The students created online memorials using Wikiprojects on PSL. I have attached a few examples from the Wiki projects.——Benita Sumita, Ph.D. High School Humanities Teacher

Recently when I found out that I had to teach textiles art to primary school students, I must admit I was a bit nervous! I have some training in this, but had not been asked to do so for many years. Nevertheless, I set myself to the task of preparing 15 mini weaving looms for our students. Working late into the night on the last day before our students left the school, I was wondering how well this complex activity would go for our students at home.

I set myself to the task of making my lesson plan adaptable for remote learning with videos and images researched from the internet, and a Power Point Presentation, “images guides”, and supplied yarn in interesting colors that were not provided in the original packets. Each student took their packets back home and eagerly awaited their lessons. When I ran the lesson, it seemed to go well, but what followed very happily surprised me. Not only did the students do the activity very well, each one creating an original design, but also the parents were fully engaged and supportive. The result was that everyone enjoyed and appreciated this activity and also completed it much faster than anticipated. In fact, they were so fast that I was caught off-guard and had to burn the midnight oil to create another brand new lesson for them.

The lesson I have learned is that we must always rise above one’s worries and embrace what will be the best education we can provide at THIS! I am excited about continuing to work with everyone at THIS to provide the best program for our students.
