Summer Camp｜第二期夏令营圆满结营：快乐学习，精彩一“夏”！

小学部的每个孩子就像一颗颗小星星，各个神采奕奕。夏令营里，国际部给孩子们带来了干货满满的课程，希望孩子们能够散发出更璀璨的光芒。在“汉字的演变”课程中，孩子们在老师的带领下，体会了汉字从甲骨文到简体字的演化过程，领略了源远流长的中国文化脉络。等到了体育课，孩子们又全情投入到体育游戏中，欢快地奔跑、跳跃、欢呼着。而在每天的课间，又时常能看到孩子们认真地对练台词，为最终的舞台剧做着准备。果然，最终舞台上，每个孩子都是最佳主角。

Each primary child is like a little star, each one glowing. The THIS summer program provided a variety of choices so the children were able to find a course where they can shine most brightly. In the class, the children studied the evolution of Chinese characters from oracle bone characters to simplified Chinese characters, and learned about the rich culture through vivid historical stories. In PE class, the children ran, jumped, and played games. Every day, children enthusiastically practiced their lines and prepared for the play performances. Sure enough, each child was the best actor on the final stage.

在初中英语故事演讲课上，同学们是口若悬河的演讲家；在音乐教室里，同学们是落落大方的音乐家；而计算机代码课上，他们又是认真钻研、探索创新的科学家……初中部丰富的课程让同学们得到了全方位的锻炼。

In the Art of Storytelling class, middle school students spoke with eloquence. In music class, they were serious musicians. In Arduino class, the students studied and explored innovation. The rich offerings this summer allowed students to experience a full range of growth.

充实而欢乐的时光很快就过了！回想小学孩子们热情洋溢、专注认真的脸庞，中学部孩子们各显神通探索音乐，不管独奏、重奏、合唱，虽短短两周，却能出色的完成汇报演出，真心为孩子们感到骄傲！期待你们继续在音乐里翱翔！

The joyful time passed quickly! When I look back on the enthusiastic, focused and serious faces of the primary children, and the middle school students exploring music in their own way, whether solo, repertoire, or chorus, I’m truly proud of them for completing the performance, even though it was only two weeks. We look forward to seeing all of them continue to develop in music!

Laura White老师 – 英语故事演讲

Ms. Laura White, Art of Storytelling

在两周的时间里，参加夏令营的学生分析了故事讲述的例子，探讨了认同、家庭和自信等话题。在学生们自己编写的故事中，他们传达了自身经历或学到的经验。在课程结束时，他们已然能够自信地站在众人面前，讲述自己的故事，将他们的个人故事与生活经验分享给全世界。

During two weeks, students who attended the THIS summer program analyzed the setting, character development, and conflict resolution of  stories. Then, it was the turn of our students to develop their own personal stories, with the intention on sharing a message or lesson learned. At the end of the course, they stood up in front of a crowd and told their stories. The final product was a personal story that was turned into a life experience that mattered and had to be shared with the world.

夏令营的每个课程都很有趣，从一开始在每节课认识新同学，到后来我们一起合作，我们都收获了深厚的友谊。

Every course was fun, from the beginning when we met new students in each class, to later when we worked together and we all gained deep friendships.

去年我就参加了国际部的夏令营，老师们都很敬业，课堂也充实有趣，短短两周的时间我们可以和老朋友相聚，也和来自不同学校的同学成为了交新朋友，还学习了丰富的知识。夏令营给了我一段精彩的经历！

I attended THIS Summer Camp since last year. The teachers were very dedicated and the classes were full of fun. In just two weeks we were able to meet up with old friends, make new friends with students from different schools, and learned a wealth of knowledge. Summer camp was a wonderful experience for me!

高中的夏令营课程为学生提供了激发新想法和尝试新领域的机会。英语非小说类阅读课中，原版阅读和一对一指导，有效提升了学生们的学术能力；陶艺课从捏陶、上色到烧制陶器的过程，让学生们充分沉浸在艺术创作中。篮球课最是让学生们尽情释放活力的时刻。在老师的专业指导下，学生们不断尝试和挑战新的篮球技术，挖掘出对体育的热爱，充分展现其个性与特长。

The high school program offered students the opportunity to spark new ideas and try out new areas. The Non-Fiction Writing class enhanced students’ academic writing skills with original readings and one-on-one writing instruction. Students were fully immersed in pottery class kneading, coloring, and firing pottery. And in basketball, the students let their energy out. They tried new and challenging basketball techniques, tapping into their love for sports, and fully expressing their personalities and strengths.

Nathalia Hardy老师 – 英语非小说类阅读

Ms. Nathalia Hardy, Non-Fiction Reading

夏令营的阅读课程让高中学生们接触到了各种非小说类阅读题材，从而帮助他们学习集中阅读的方法和提高词汇量的技巧。他们学会了通过EBSCO在线浏览原版新闻和杂志等阅读材料。我们还一同讨论了对信息来源的评估和寻找高质量的信息。 

The non-fiction camp exposed students to a variety of non-fiction and helped them to learn skills to focus their reading and improve their vocabulary.  They learned to access magazines and news online through the EBSCO and to find good books to read.  We discussed the evaluation of sources and finding quality information.

我在这次夏令营中学到了很多，例如如何有效地记笔记——只记要点，而不是完整的句子。Hardy老师每天给我们提供阅读的段落，并带领我们阅读该段落的问题，以帮助我们更好地理解。我还学会了一种更详细的写OPVL的方法来评估资料来源，并学会了如何从书中找到OPVL中需要的信息。

I learned a lot in this camp for example I learned how to write down notes effectively. I should just note down the main points and not write down sentences. Ms.Hardy gives us passages to read every day then she walks us through the questions for the passage to help us better understand each passage. I also learned a more detailed way of writing OPVL to evaluate sources and learned how to find information that is needed in the OPVL from the book.

这个夏令营对我的阅读能力有很大帮助，Hardy老师让我们每天来的时候读20-30分钟的书，这也让我培养了阅读的习惯。之后我们通过上网搜索书中不懂的单词，不断扩大词汇量。这些对我的英语写作也是非常有帮助的。

This camp helped me a lot in focusing on my reading skills, our teacher Ms.Hardy let us read for 20-30 minutes each day when we get here, and I don’t really read in the morning, but that was a change which is good. Afterwards we get to go online to search for the words that we don’t understand in the book, and this could expand our vocabulary. In the future, it could help us with our writing.
