Building a New Generation
“Education should face modernization, should face the world and should face the future.” We should view today’s education with a view to the future. We must make it possible for our students to win in the face of fierce competition in the future. We should build a new generation. This generation should exemplify a balance of “morality, intelligence, physical education, aesthetics and socialization.
Our students should also develop expertise in some area. Although they carry on our traditions, they will also infuse this legacy with learning from modern thought. Although they may be born in China or in other countries, they should surely have a keen understanding of the entire globe. Our students should have a common nature, characterized by the following:
1. Never be content. Be eager to have more knowledge. Continue always with life-long learning.
2. Never be selfish. Be actively engaged in pursuit of the common interest and willing to dedicate themselves fully to this noble endeavor.
3. Never slack off. Pursue perfection. Endeavor to explore and create new things.
4. Never be pessimistic. Strive forward with confidence. Be strong and tough.
5. Never be conceited. Always be friendly, open-minded and tolerant of other points of view. Strive to be generous, humble and honest.
Administrators and teachers should offer our students an excellent educational environment, sufficient educational resources. But above all we should light the fire in the hearts and minds of our students. We should faithfully carry out the education of cultivating good habits and building noble characters. In addition, we should earnestly analyze exceptional educational models both at home and abroad. But we should always explore and utilize our own excellent traditions and resources.
We should follow Tsinghua’s educational concept -- that is to always strive to apply both history and modernity, as well as combine both science and humanity, and draw on the wisdom of both China and foreign countries. We should also consult and learn from advanced western educational ideas. But we should also always hold dear our school motto “Self-Discipline and Social Commitment.” Tsinghua International School pledges to faithfully strive to continually search and pursue a shining model of education that truly reflects the best of both the Oriental and Western model of excellence in education.
