Welcome! 欢迎!

We at Tsinghua International School (THIS) are proud to be in our pilot year of operation during the 2009-2010 academic year. Tsinghua International School is a new and exciting chapter in the long collaboration between Chinese and American education. Tsinghua University was founded in 1911 as a preparatory college for Chinese scholars sent by the Chinese government to the United States.

As a division of the High School Attached to Tsinghua University (清华大学附属中学), THIS provides curriculum and instruction based on American progressive educational philosophies and practices, while also integrating Chinese perspectives on education, for students who come to Beijing from all over the world. Our primary curriculum (grades 1-5) follows the “Bank Street” model of education, in which “lively intellectual curiosities turn the world into an exciting laboratory and keep one ever a learner” (Lucy Sprague Mitchell, founder of Bank Street College of Education, New York City). Our curriculum in grades 6-8 furthers this interactive foundation and is designed to prepare students to succeed in challenging high school courses. The high school curriculum focuses on preparing students for colleges and universities in the United States, Canada, and other western countries. THIS is working with the College Board to offer the Advanced Placement (AP) program of courses for high school students, which challenge students in grades 11 and 12 to study courses in Math, Science, and the Social Sciences at the university level.

We nurture our students to become global citizens with a global perspective, ready to engage with the world as leaders and participants in the realities of an interactive, international society. Our instruction is student-centered, and we strive to harness the unique qualities, skills, and talents of our student body and the greater THIS community. We seek to develop a sense of personal integrity in our students to promote their participation in an international community.

I invite you to take a closer look at our school through the corners of our website and discover what being a part of the THIS community looks like. On behalf of the THIS faculty and staff, students, and families, I warmly welcome you to visit us, whether by exploring our website, contacting us by phone or email, or arranging an appointment to visit our facilities on the campus of Tsinghua University in Beijing.

Thank you.
